It all starts with a seemingly small thing.

The school management asks to speak with Luis’s parents. His mother, Irene, attends the meeting – and can hardly believe what it’s about: a purple backpack featuring a purple comic-style unicorn – her son’s favourite.

Because of this backpack, Luis becomes the target of bullying.

Everyone agrees it’s not a backpack for boys: his classmates, the teachers, the headmaster – and yes, even his mother.

So why not just throw it away?

Well, Irene hadn’t reckoned with her husband.

What begins as a minor issue escalates into a heated debate between the parents – about individual rights, conformity, society, gender, and its limitations.

The play is based on a true story.
