It starts with an everyday trifle. The school management asks Lui’s parents for a meeting. Mother Irene attends the meeting and can hardly believe what is inside: a purple rucksack with a purple comic unicorn on it – her son’s favourite rucksack.
Luis experiences bullying because of this rucksack. Everyone agrees that the rucksack is not for boys: Luis’ classmates, the teachers, the headmaster and yes, even his mum.
So why not throw it away? But Irene hasn’t reckoned with her husband.

This rucksack causes a heated discussion between the parents about the rights of the individual, about conformity, about society, about gender and its limitations. The play is based on a true story.

The little pony (org.: Das kleine Pony) is a production by Nikos Konstantakis in co-production with Theaterakademie e.V. and DIPHTHONG.art e.V. The production is funded by the Fonds Darstellende Künste with funds from the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media and by the Cultural Office of the City of Cologne.
