Our identity is shaped by a constant balancing act between self-awareness and self-construction. We can only influence a small part of the image we have of ourselves – and how others perceive us.

Where do we belong? What do we distance ourselves from? Which parts of our identity do we wish – or need – to hide? Which parts do we try to cast in a different light? And how do we fill the gaps that are constantly created in the process?

These and other questions confront the characters in the performance The Blind Spot, as they attempt – each in their own way – to reconstruct the culture and history of a strange, long-forgotten people for a museum exhibition, based on a series of accidental excavation finds.

Der Blinde Fleck is a production by DIPHTHONG.art e.V.,

co-produced with the Orangerie Theater Cologne and the Theatre Academy Cologne.

Supported by the Cultural Office of the City of Cologne, the NRW Landesbüro Freie Darstellende Künste – FOCUS Ukrainian Artists, and the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.

The collaboration with Ukrainian director Switlana Pasitschynk continues a three-month mentorship initiated by the Cultural Council of North Rhine-Westphalia (Kulturrat NRW).
